empire state building is higher, so you see further. top of rock is closer to ground level so the nyc skyline is a bit better. in terms of relaxation. empire state building is very crowded. top of rock is more relaxed.

It depends on the weather. If the weather is clear, the Empire State Building will give you a greater view because it's higher. There are 2 observation decks at the Empire State Building -- an indoor deck on the 102 (top) floor, and an open observatory on the 86th floor -- which is the one you see in many movies.





The Top of the Roc is on the 67, 69, and 70th floors of the building.





So, if you are trying to decide which one to visit, check the weather. If there are high clouds, you may not see much from the 102nd floor, or even the 86th floor observatory.Which is better: empire state building or top of the roc for a view of nyc?
I found the view much better from Top of the Roc than the Empire State Building. You could pick out more buildings because you were at exactly the right height.
The Empire State Building, you can see the whole city and upto 3 states, from the 86th floor observation deck of the building. Now, that's some view.
